Huntersville, NC – Initially known as Craighead, the name Huntersville emerged in 1873. The town was named for the Hunter family, the major land owning family at the time. The two prominent family members were brothers Joseph Nicholas Hunter, a merchant who built Huntersville’s first store on the railroad line and Robert Boston Hunter, a landowner and cotton farmer. Huntersville is the biggest town in Lake Norman. As of July, 2011 Bureau of Census, Huntersville has a population of 48,048. It is north of Uptown Charlotte on Exit 23 and Exit 25 on Interstate 77. The Presbyterian Hospital opened in 2004. The most popular outdoor mall is Birkdale Village, an urban living concept that features connected liveable pedestrian-friendly streets where shops, restaurants, movie theaters and offices are integrated into the neighborhoods. The prominent communities (subdivisions) are Birkdale, MacAulay, Northstone, The Hamptons, Wynfield Forest, Wynfield Creek, Lookout Point, and Skybrook to name a few. Huntersville Real Estate is booming.
